Jesse Stovall Wins Night #2 of Carlson Clash

The MLRA and CBC Late Models returned on Saturday night to race for a $3,000 winners check. After being denied on night one by one spot, Jesse Stovall would win Saturday nights 40 lap feature. Also finding victory lane include Drew Johnson in the Sport Compacts, Craig Clift in the Hobby Stocks, and Todd Boulware in the Pederson Machine Sport Mods.

Sport Compact feature action saw pole sitter Drew Johnson jump to an early lead and cruise to his first victory of the season at Park Jefferson Speedway. Cody Thompson moved into 2nd on lap eight but was unable to mount a challenge for the top spot as Johnson maintained a comfortable lead to the finish. Johnson claimed the win, Thompson finished 2nd, and Aaron Edwardson took 3rd.

The Hobby Stock feature started with a mad scramble by third row starters Andy Hoffman and Craig Clift quickly jumping to 2nd and 3rd place. Clift would pass Hoffman in turn two and quickly track down race leader Tony Fetterman in turn four to take the lead. Matt Hanson and Mike Hanson made their way to 2nd and 3rd and applied heavy pressure on Clift for the lead. Matt Hanson would pull even with Clift in turn two with three laps to go for the lead, with Mike Hanson right behind looking for a lane to the lead also. As they raced down the backstretch, contact between Mike Hanson and Matt Hanson would cause Matt Hanson to retire from the race with a flat tire. The contact allowed Clift to separate from the pack and get his first victory of the season. Mike Hanson followed in 2nd, with Jeff Fink taking 3rd.

After a caution plagued start to the Pederson Machine Sport Mod race, Todd Boulware jumped to the lead from his outside pole starting position. Dan VanBruggen tried to squeeze by the outside of 2nd place runner Darin Roepke and the front stretch wall, but a cut tire would send VanBruggen to the pits for a tire change and a spot at the rear of the field. Karl Brewer would use the momentum provided by the high line to get around Roepke for 2nd. On lap 8, Brewer caught Boulware and started to challenge for the lead. A scary front stretch rollover by Kirk Beatty (he would be okay) would setup a green-white-checker finish. On the final lap, Brewer pulled alongside Boulware in turn 2, with Boulware's outside momentum allowing him to edge back out front down the back stretch. Brewer would drive in hard in turn three under Boulware, with Roepke doing the same to pull alongside Brewer to go three wide into turn four. But just like in turn two, Boulware would use his outside momentum to pull a car length on Brewer down the front stretch for the win. Boulware would claim his 2nd win of the weekend for the $200 sweep bonus, with Brewer in 2nd, and Roepke in third.

Late Models took the track next for their 40 lap feature. Jesse Stovall took the lead on lap one from his 2nd starting spot. Stovall would use the top side of the track around the Park Jefferson Speedway to pull away from Jason Utter and Terry Philips. A lap 14 caution would bunch the field up on the rear of Jesse Stovall. On the only restart of the race, Stovall jumped back to a comfortable cushion, while Kyle Berck moved into 3rd with passes on Utter and Stormy Scott. Stormy Scott would slide by Utter for fourth, but Utter would return the favor laps later as Scott fell back to 5th. Stovall would continue to lead Philips out front as both maneuvered through lap traffic without issue. Stovall would cruise to victory to claim the $3,000 check. Philips took 2nd, Berck finished 3rd from 12th, Utter finished 4th, and Rodney took 5th from the 18th starting position.

Park Jefferson Speedway will take next weekend off, but racing will resume on Saturday June 13th, with Sign Masters Modifieds, J&J Fitting Stock Cars, Pederson Machine Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, and Sport Compacts.
