Park Jefferson International Speedway
Moore and Mills headline winners at Road to the Iron Cup
Park Jefferson held its second to last race weekend this Saturday night as they hosted the Road to the Iron Cup event for SignMaster Modifieds, Fox 620 Hobby Stocks and Pedersen Machine Sport Compacts.
In the SignMasters Modifieds, Bob Moore was the top winner taking the win over Jim Cole and Nick Wranek. Cole took his Professional Concrete 55 to the lead early, but Moore powered around the top side on lap 8 and was able to hold off the challenges of Cole and Wranek. Cole looked strong in his tuneup for the Iron Cup and promises to be on his A game for the night.
The Fox 620 Hobby Stocks saw Dustin Gulbrandson continue to master the Park Jeff oval. Gulbrandson was able to use all parts of the track to take the lead. Track champion Rusty Montague and Dave Riley challenged at various parts of the race, but it was Gulbrandson who won the caution filled affair.
The always entertaining Pedersen Machine Sport Compacts saw Don Tank take the top spot. Tank, who was not a regular this year, earned a hard fought victory over Tim Cass and Max Bonine.
Chris Mills once again swept to the top spot of the J&J Fitting Stock Cars. Mills dominance at Park this year has been amazing to watch, as he and Travis Barker have dueled clean all season. Barker tried every trick working both the top and bottom grooves, but Mills 02 was too strong in the end.
The Schaeffer Oil Sport Mods were once again worth the price of admission. Josh Blom took the lead early in the race and appeared to have mastered the drying out track. Rusty Montague continued his charge forward from midpack, and a slip up by Blom on the bottom of turns 1-2 led Montague to get the run toward the backstretch and take the lead for good on lap 13.
Park Jefferson will go dark this Saturday night as the Boone SuperNationals will be held. Park Jefferson returns to action September 17-18 with the IMCA Sanctioned Iron Cup. The total purse for the event continues to grow and will be over $35,000. The format has changed for 2016 as both nights will be complete and separate shows with drivers earning State, Regional, and National IMCA points. Gates open both days at 2 with hot laps beginning at 4:30.
