SAPULPA, Okla. (April 25, 2017) With Mother Nature limiting the number of races to run this past weekend, Blake Hahn had planned on racing Knoxville Raceway, but at the last minute, decided to head for Park Jefferson International Speedway in N. Sioux City, S.D. where the Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 crossed runner-up with the Nebraska 360 Series.
“I’m glad we decided to go. The car was great all night and the track was a lot of fun to drive,” said Hahn who won at the South Dakota oval in 2016 with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network. “Running with the Nebraska 360 Series is just like running with our ASCS Regions. They did a great job and I really enjoyed running with their series.”
Drawing low for his Heat Race, Hahn started second in the third Heat Race with victory being the outcome to start the night.
“The track was good in the Heat. I was pretty much able to jump to the top and check out. I couldn’t hear anyone close to me, so as it went on I was able to change lines and feel the track out a little bit. That helped later on the feature, especially in lapped traffic.”
Drawing the seventh starting spot, traffic would play a big part in Blake’s success as the race went caution free.
“We were going through traffic so fast, I was just focused on not getting held up more than who I was trying to run down,” explained Hahn. “Once I started racing with Jason Martin, I started paying attention to who was next in line and that was Lee Grosz.”
Able to run down the North Dakota racer, the pair began exchanging the runner-up spot as leader, Thomas Kennedy, was nowhere to be found.
“We start racing through traffic and I was able to slide him, then he slid me back. When we came to the white flag, I was a quarter straightaway behind, so I just went into three and four as deep as I could and it worked out that a lapped car moved up and cleared the lane.”
Tentatively, Hahn is planning on racing with the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps on Friday, April 28 at Callaway Raceway before getting some laps at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, April 29. All stops of course of subject to change as the team watches the forecast.
