Park Jefferson sees Boulware take Road to the Iron Cup Night
Saturday Night the Park Jefferson Speedway hosted the Road to the Iron Cup for the Schaeffer Oil Sport Modifieds. A dry and wind-blown surface greeted fans and drivers alike for what would turn out to be a challenging dry surface.
The Schaeffer Oil Sport Mods saw the “Jefferson Jet” Todd Boulware cruise to the checkered flags from his 3rd place starting spot. After some challenging opening weeks, Boulware re-asserted himself as the man to beat when the money is on the line. Jeff Brunssen, after a terrible incident and black flag last week, charged from the eighth place starting spot to run 2nd and Karl Brewer returned to road around the track to third place. The division saw many of the top drivers from years past return to their podium positions.
In the SignMasters Modifieds, Rock Valley, Iowa’s Thor Anderson was able to take advantage of his pole position to take the checkered flag. Utilizing a unique line through turns 3&4, Anderson was able to hold off the point leader Bob Moore and Ricky Stephans to take his first ever checkered flag at Park Jefferson. Moore brought his orange numeral 48 machine in second place.
A different week but the same winner graced Park Jefferson’s J&J Fitting Stock Car victory lane as it was again Elijah Zevenbergen from Ocheyeden taking the top spot. Zevenbergen’s run came from the twelfth place starting spot. The lucky sixth row also saw Zach Oliver, who came from eleventh, able to work his car around the surface to take second. Dunlap’s Tony Ritterbush rounded out the top spot. A bounty has been put on Zevenbergen by the track management of an additional $100 if someone can unseat the driver who is perfect this year. Should Zevenbergen win, he will receive an additional $50 for his efforts.
After a week which saw the Hobby Stock division in turmoil, it was Dustin Gulbrandson and Craig Clift who found themselves in the top 2 spots. Both drivers fell in the point standings after last week’s black flags, and this week saw them jump right back up to spots 2&3 behind third place finishing David Miller. Aaron Shearn continues his renaissance as he battled to a fourth place finish.
The Fox 620 Sport Compact division saw a new man in victory lane, as Jake Newsom wheeled his number 423 to victory over teammate Tyler Thompson. Newsome was able to work through a field of feisty competitors and sliced through to the top spot for the win, beating Thompson to victory lane. David Bates utilized his front row starting spot to hold on for third.
A miniscule field of only six Keizer Wheels Sprint Cars competed at Park Jefferson. When it was all said and done, Jack Dover continued his torrid pace of picking up checkered flags to win over the other 5 cars. Dover is now 7 for 10 over the past 3 years at Park Jefferson. Similar to Zevenbergen, Dover has now had a bounty placed on him as well with an additional $100 going to a winner and $50 to Dover should he win.
Turner Plumbing of Vermillion will be the feature sponsor this next Saturday night at Park Jefferson. History will be made on Saturday at Park will welcome the IMCA Racesaver Sprint Cars for the first time ever. As a result of the Racesavers as well as travelling series events, Park Jefferson will see the Keizer Wheels Championship Sprints take the night off to allow the Racesavers a chance for featured billing. Gates open at 5 pm with racing at 7 pm. Adults are $12, Seniors 70+ are $5 and Children are $2. The Budweiser clubhouse will be open and a clubhouse pass can be added to any ticket for $12.
