Dover Earns Podium Result During South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 2, 2018) – Jack Dover posted a podium finish last Saturday during the inaugural South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals.

Dover, who was driving for Chris Bowers, opened the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints and Midwest Sprint Touring Series event at Park Jefferson International Speedway on Friday by maneuvering from fifth to second place in his first heat race and from sixth to second in his second heat.

“Saturday’s main event was lined up by heat race points on Friday so it was important to move forward as much as possible both times we hit the track,” he said. “Given that we started toward the back in both heat races I was pleased with a second-place result both times.”

That ranked Dover fourth in overall event points, which lined him up on the outside of the second row for Saturday’s $10,000-to-win main event.

“The track was ice slick to start the race,” he said. “Everyone was all over the track trying to find the best lane with the most grip. The top was preferred and then rubber came in and it began working down the track.”

Dover spent most of the race in fourth place, but with the top three drivers right in front of him. He made a late-race pass to secure third place, which was his first podium finish of the season.

“It’s unfortunate the track took rubber and we didn’t get a chance to race for the win,” he said. “We’ll take a podium any time and given the circumstances we’re happy with the end result.”

Dover will return to his No. 53 sprint car this weekend for races on Friday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints and on Saturday at Wagner Speedway in Wagner, S.D., with the Midwest Sprint Touring Series.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to I-80, which is a home track for us,” he said. “We’ve won a lot of races there so hopefully we can pick up our first win of the season on Friday. And I’ve never raced at Wagner Speedway so that will be exciting to see a new track.”
