Beckendorf, Zevenbergen, Ballenger, Brewer, Smith and DeVries take home IMCA Iron Cups

The 5th Annual J&J Fitting Iron Cup Championship Night presented by I State Truck Centers brought a close to the 2018 racing season at Park Jefferson Speedway.
In the Artworks Graphics IMCA Modifieds, it was Brandon Beckendorf of Danube who secured the famed Iron Cup. Beckendorf finished a solid second to Bob Moore in the Saturday Feature to win the 2-day cup. Meanwhile, Moore picked up a cool $1,000 for taking the checkers on Saturday night. On a dried-out surface, it was Moore and Keegan Nordquist who opened the racing from the front row. The top made contact on lap 3 which saw Nordquist sit sideways in turn 2 and Moore take the point. Moore then held point until Beckendorf slide around Moore with just a couple of laps to go, but the 48 machine of Moore raced back around the Danube, Minnesota invader to take the cash. Sean Barragan had a fabulous run to finish 4th.
In the J&J Fitting Stock Cars, it was all Elijah Zevenbergen walking home with the $1,000 check. Courtesy of a mid-pack starting spot, Zevenbergen was on the go from right at the start of the racing. Greg Taylor held the point for the first half of the event but could not hold off the Ocheydan rocket. Travis Barker rounded out the field. Zevenbergen swept the weekend in the division and therefore earned the Iron Cup.
Dusty Ballenger and Danny Nekolite made the IMCA Sprint Car feature as an event to bring fans to their feet. Nekolite had the advantage over Ballenger by 1 pt. courtesy of the Friday night finish, but Ballenger ultimately took home the $1,000 prize and the Iron Cup for the sprint cars. At the start, it was Michael Johnston who held the point for the first half of the race, although he traded slide jobs with Ballenger. Meanwhile Nekolite was gaining ground from the back. A mid race caution was all Ballenger needed and he roared to the front, but Nekoite caught him with 5 to go. It got very interesting when Nekolite threw a slide job in 3&4 to take the top spot, but fans jumped to their feet as Ballenger slid him back then held him off for the win and the cup.
In the IMCA Sport Modifieds, it was Rusty Montagne who capture the top spot over Karl Brewer. Montagne, who missed Friday nights action due to high school football commitments, controlled the event from early on. Every time that Brewer would make an attempt to catch him, Montagne would run a perfect lap and stretch back to a 2-car advantage. Brewer won a well-deserved cup as the slick track specialist was strong over both nights of racing.
In the Z98 IMCA Hobby Stocks, Andy Hoffman came looking for redemption and found it. After coming from deep in the field on Friday, Hoffman worked his magic around Park and went three wide several times to move forward and get the win. Jeremy Smith, the previous night’s winner, was smooth and conservative in getting 2nd place with Derek Husted with a strong run for third. Smith’s consistency saw him win a first ever Iron Cup.
It was Spencer Iowa’s Jay Devries who swept the weekend in the IMCA Sport Compact division as he was able to wire the field on the Saturday edition. Devries was strong all weekend long and continued to control the field as he ran the middle of the track. Meanwhile Andrew Harris and David Bates continued their friendly rivalry as the ran second and third to round out the racing.
In the Nebraska Modified Lites, it was once again Scott Naggatz who took the win. Naggatz has something special going at Park as he started deep in the field yet worked like a hot knife through butter to take the win.
The 2018 Park Jefferson Season has come to a close. The owners of Park Jefferson would like to thank all of the fans, drivers, sponsors and officials that worked so hard to make this year special. With the close of the season, the Park Jefferson Speedway wishes fans and drivers the best during the offseason. The track office is closed but any questions can be directed to adam@parkjeff.com
