Preliminary Night at Park Jefferson see 82 cars with Luinenburg, Klynsma, Probst and Devries in victory lane

Preliminary night of the 8th annual J&J Fitting Iron Cup came to Park Jefferson Speedway for the IMCA divisions here is Sioux City. With all the top local hot shoes on hand, the racing was fast and furious as 83 cars entered into night number 1 of the Iron Cup.

In the J&J Fitting IMCA Stock Cars it was a Justin Luinenburg who came from the 11th starting spot to pick up the $1,000 in cash for first place. Luinenberg, who was the beneficiary of a some cautions, was able to work his way up and get by local stalwart Travis Barker and and Mike Albertsen in the black and red #3 car to work the restarts to perfection getting the checkers. The tough guy award goes to Kip Degroot as he lead the first quarter of the race, but a slick track that saw moisture come back as the sun went down, caused him to loop his silver 44 and lose a commanding lead. Heats went to Luinenburg, Barker and Todd Gereau.

The Z98 IMCA Sport Modifieds saw a Justin Klynsma pick up a very popular win as the black and blue 1s machine worked by a cars during a handful of restarts to pick up the top prize. Klynsma, who has been a longtime area racer, was able to get the jump on Keegan Nordquist and Jeff Brunnsen in the final restart to take the checkers as Nordquist was second and longtime runner Brunnsen was third. Heats went to strong running Luke Jackson and Nordquist.

The Q & Feather Again Hobby Stocks saw one of the race of the year nominees as drivers were racing 3 and 4 wide around the Park Jeff oval. Cory Probst, who was anywhere from first to fourth on a number of laps was able to get the late race victory over Dylan FItzpatrick and Blake Luinenburg. It was a thrilling feature that saw fans out of their seats with action all over the track. Heats went to David Miller, Probst and Luinenburg.

The Fox 620 Sport Compacts got the evening going as Kaytee Devries once again found victory lane over the 8 car field. Caine Mahlberg picked up the win.

The twin sets of modified heat races saw tough racing around the track as drivers battled varying track conditions as the track changed from heat races in set one vs heat races in set 2 as the moisture came up through the track and caused a slick set of heats in round 2. In round one of heats it was Jason Speed Schneiders picking up heat 1, Nebraska invader Jacob Hobscheidt in heat 2 and former track champion Bob Moore in heat 3. In the second round of heats which saw the field invert, it was again Brian Osantowski, Moore and Hobscheidt picking up the heats. Hobscheidt and Moore were the top point earners on preliminary night and will start on the front row of the 35 laps feature as drivers get ready for the $5,000 to win IMCA Modified feature tonight at Park Jefferson.

With tonight being a separate night, drivers in the stock cars, sport modifieds, hobby stocks and sport compacts will have a complete separate night of racing with a draw and redraw format. Any driver wishing to compete tonight did not need to race on Monday as Tuesday is a complete separate show. Modifieds wishing to enter tonight will tag the rear of the twin qualifiers. Anyone with further questions on entering tonight is encouraged to call Deb Maack at 712-263-0531.

Gates open at 5pm for the competitors, 6pm for spectators. Hot laps at 7pm and racing at 7:30 pm. Adult tickets are $17, seniors $15, children 6-16 $5 and under 6 are free.
